Appearance
Beautiful white coat with a dense undercoat and a coarser silver tipped longer coat. Their coats are weather resistant. The under coat can even be woven when it's shed!
Their eyes are dark and the Samoyed Smile is unmistakable! Their eyes and lips are outlined with black liner as dark as their noses.
Health issues
As with all dogs, there are some health issues to be aware of. This is not a complete list, so it is important to talk with your veterinarian and to educate yourself.
-Eyes: X-Linked Progressive Retinal Atrophy and Retinal Dysplasia/OSD
-Heart: Aortic Stenosis/sub-aortic stenosis. Pulmonic valve stenosis.
-Hips/Elbows: Hip Dysplasia, Elbow Dysplasia
grooming
Samoyeds take a lot of time and energy to keep their coat white, shiny and groomed!
They shed A LOT!
You must Brush/Comb them often to remove soiling, matts and to stimulate new coat growth.
Bath as needed, usually less frequently then some breeds.
Brush their teeth to remove tartar.
NEVER EVER SHAVE OR CUT A SAMOYED unless for surgery or recommended by your veterinarian.
